We stock and install Elite-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts throughout San Jose, and most single-gate hinge and roller swaps run $240 – $480 parts and labor, with the majority done same-day from the parts on our truck. You’ll usually discover the failure before we do: the gate starts dragging on the driveway, the rollers squeal like a stuck hinge, or the gate leans a few degrees off plumb so the latch no longer lines up with the post. In older San Jose neighborhoods like Willow Glen and Rose Garden, we see a lot of original Elite slide-gate roller trucks where the sealed bearing finally gives out after a decade of sun, rain, and the occasional teenage driver bumping the gate with a car.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite builds two broad families we work on regularly: the SL3000 and SL4000 series slide-gate operators, and the CSW swing-gate models. The hinge and roller hardware differs between them, and one of the most common mistakes we correct is an owner ordering a generic V-groove roller for an Elite slide gate that actually rides on a 4-inch flat roller with a thrust washer, not a V-track. On Elite swing gates, the factory hinges are usually a weld-on barrel design with a grease fitting, and the compatible replacement spec is 1-inch barrel with a 5/8-inch pin, though a handful of CSW200 models on older San Jose installations used a 3/4-inch pin, so we always measure the existing pin before quoting.
For the roller side, aftermarket equivalents from suppliers like Uxcell and National Hardware work fine on Elite slide gates as long as the roller diameter and mounting bolt spacing match the original. We stock quality aftermarket rollers on the truck that fit most SL series models. One compatibility gotcha: Elite changed its roller bracket bolt pattern on the SL4000 series around 2021, so a roller that fits a 2019 Elite gate won’t necessarily bolt onto a 2023 one without drilling a new hole or swapping the bracket as well. We carry both patterns.

Signs Your Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- The gate scrapes the driveway or hesitates mid-travel. A worn roller drops the gate body lower than designed, dragging the bottom rail across concrete. On San Jose’s many slightly sloped driveways, this also means the operator motor is now fighting the grade every cycle.
- A grinding or howling noise when the gate moves. This is the sealed roller bearing failing. Once water gets past the seal on an Elite slide-gate roller, the bearing rusts inside a few months, especially during the wet winter months we get in the South Bay.
- The gate leans visibly to one side. On swing gates, a worn hinge pin allows the whole gate leaf to sag, which puts a shear load on the operator arm and strips the mounting hardware over time.
- The latch no longer reaches the catch post or the gate won’t close fully. That sag translates directly into the latch being a half-inch low. We see this constantly on Elite CSW gates installed before 2015 around Almaden and Cambrian.
- Excessive play when you push the gate by hand. With the operator disengaged, grab the gate mid-span and rock it back and forth. If there’s more than a quarter-inch of movement at the hinge or roller point, the hardware is worn past adjustment and the replacement clock is running.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical San Jose single swing-gate hinge replacement, you’re looking at $240 – $380 including the hinge set, bushings, greasing, and the labor to lift and re-align the gate. A slide-gate roller and bracket replacement usually runs $260 – $480, depending on whether we’re doing one roller pair or all four, and whether the mounting brackets need to be cut off and re-welded because the old bolts have seized or snapped. The price is quoted in writing before a single bolt is turned, and it includes alignment of the gate in its travel, greasing every fitting we touch, and a written 365-day guarantee on the repair. If a hinge or roller we installed fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
What drives the range is mostly labor: a roller that drops into an existing bracket is fast, while a bracket that’s rust-welded to the post or a gate that’s fallen out of alignment takes longer to do right. We’ll tell you the honest range before we start, and the number on the written estimate is the number you pay.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: rock the gate to feel for play, look at the roller wheels for flat spots or rust streaks, and check whether the hinge pins have visible wear rings around them. What we don’t recommend is a DIY hinge or roller swap on an Elite gate that’s connected to an operator. The gate itself is heavy, often 400 to 800 pounds, and if it shifts while the hinge is out, it can pin a hand or leg against the post. Roller replacements on slide gates look simple but the gate body needs to be safely blocked and the operator travel limit reset afterward, or you’ll strip the drive chain against a misaligned end stop.
We’ve done enough corrective repairs on DIY Elite hinge jobs around San Jose to say this: the part is easy to order, the re-alignment is the actual job. If you want it done once, call us at (669) 800-5686 and we’ll bring the right hinge or roller pattern the first time.
FAQs
On a properly maintained San Jose gate, Elite hinges and rollers typically last 8 to 12 years before the bearing wear or hinge pin slop becomes a problem. Gates exposed to direct afternoon sun and constant irrigation overspray tend to fail at the shorter end of that range because the seals dry out faster. Call (669) 800-5686 if yours are showing wear and we’ll give you an honest assessment over the phone.
Sometimes yes: a hinge with a replaceable bushing or a roller with a removable bearing can be rebuilt for less than a full replacement. But if the roller wheel itself is gouged or the hinge barrel is ovaled from wear, a rebuild won’t hold alignment, and the honest call is replacement. Ask for Dean Prescott when you call and we’ll tell you which path makes sense on your gate.
Most Elite hinge or roller replacements on single gates are done in 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on whether the old hardware needs to be cut or heated off and whether the gate requires re-alignment afterward. We quote a real arrival window and the written price covers the full job regardless of how long the old bolts fight us.
We stock the most common Elite roller patterns, hinge sizes, and bracket styles on our San Jose service trucks, plus compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls gates. If your gate has an odd bolt pattern or an older pin size, we’ll measure it, order the right part, and return with it, all under the same written estimate.
