Linear Welding & Fabrication: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

We stock, fabricate, and install Linear-compatible welded gate components across San Jose, and most welding and fabrication repairs on Linear operators run between $275 and $850 installed, depending on what failed and whether we’re repairing the existing piece or fabricating a replacement from scratch. Same-day service is available for most San Jose welding jobs when we have the part or the steel on the truck, which we usually do. Most homeowners discover this problem the hard way: a bent gate bracket, a cracked operator mount, or a snapped hinge weld that leaves the gate sagging against the driveway with the operator still trying to push it.

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably already watched the gate stutter, heard the metal groan, or seen a weld fail outright. You need the part matched to your Linear model and you need to know the honest price before anyone fires up a welder. That’s what this page is for.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Most of the welding and fabrication work we do on Linear equipment covers the swing-gate and slide-gate operator lines: the Linear LDO series swing operators, the Linear SL and SLR slide operators, and older Linear APeX and MegaCode actuator setups still running in San Jose neighborhoods like Almaden Valley and Evergreen. The welded components that fail on these are usually the same three pieces: the gate bracket that connects the actuator arm to the gate itself, the operator mounting plate that bolts to the concrete or steel post, and the hinge weld points on heavy ornamental gates that the operator has been stressing for years.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see regularly in San Jose: Linear brackets and mounts are not universal across the product line. An LDO swing operator uses a different bracket geometry than an SL slide operator, and mixing them up means the actuator binds and tears the weld again within months. If you can find the model label on your operator (usually on the side of the housing or inside the cover), we can match it precisely. If the label’s gone, we’ll measure the bracket and the arm travel before any work starts. For most Linear applications, we recommend OEM or OEM-spec brackets over generic weld-in tabs. The aftermarket universal brackets are cheaper, but they rarely hold the pivot angle correctly on heavier gates, and we’ve had to cut out more than a few of them in San Jose where the gate leaned into the operator after six months.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags or scrapes at the free end. A cracked weld at the bottom hinge or a broken bracket weld lets the gate drop slightly. The operator keeps working, but it’s now dragging weight it was never meant to carry, and that stress moves right into the actuator arm and the other welds.
  • The operator arm wobbles where it meets the gate. On Linear swing actuators, the bracket weld is the most common failure point. If you can grab the actuator arm and wiggle it, the bracket weld has already cracked or is about to. Continuing to cycle it will snap the arm clean off and usually bend the operator’s output shaft, which turns a $300 weld repair into a full operator replacement.
  • The mounting plate has lifted off the concrete or post. San Jose’s soil shifts with the wet winters and dry summers, and a mounting plate that was never properly anchored will work itself loose. That wobble cracks the plate welds over time. You’ll see the operator housing jump slightly at the start and end of each cycle.
  • You hear a metallic pop or crack at the end of gate travel. That’s the weld flexing under load, not the gate hitting the stop. Each pop is a fatigue cycle in the steel, and those add up fast on a gate that cycles four or five times a day.
  • The gate hesitates or reverses mid-cycle. When a welded bracket bends but hasn’t fully broken, the geometry changes just enough that the operator’s limit switches behave erratically. The board isn’t failing; it’s getting false feedback from a gate that no longer sits level in its arc.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Jose, most Linear welding and fabrication repairs land between $275 and $850 installed. A simple cracked weld on a gate bracket usually runs $275 to $400 including the grinding, re-welding, and a solvent primer on the repaired steel. Fabricating a new bracket or reinforcing the operator mounting plate runs higher, typically $500 to $850, because we’re cutting, fitting, and welding fresh steel to match your gate’s exact geometry rather than just filling a crack. The price depends on the thickness of the steel, the access to the weld site, and whether we’re working on ornamental iron that needs a clean cosmetic finish after the structural weld.

Every quote includes the full parts-and-labor price in writing before we strike an arc. You’ll know the number, and that number won’t change when the truck rolls up, because we don’t do add-on surprises. The repair carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld we fixed fails inside that year, we come back and redo it at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it’s stamped on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

If you spot a cracked weld or a loose bracket, you can safely do one thing: note where the gate is sagging and where the weld has failed, then stop cycling the operator. Every additional cycle works the crack deeper and turns a repairable weld into a full fabrication job. Beyond that, this is not a DIY repair. Welding on a gate that’s still connected to a Linear operator means working around the actuator arm under tension, and if the bracket lets go while you’re grinding or welding, that arm can move violently. The weld itself needs to handle repeated load cycles, not just look solid; a poor weld on a gate bracket will snap again and take the operator housing with it.

We’re background-checked, uniformed technicians who already know the Linear system on your property before we arrive, and we’ll have the welder and the steel on the truck. Call (669) 800-5686 and we’ll give you a written price before a single bolt is touched.
